NAAQS
Policy. National Ambient Air Quality Standards; regulations established by the U.S. Clean Air Act prescribing levels of pollution that may not be exceeded during a specified time in a defined area.
nacelle
Transportation. 1. a streamlined enclosure designed to house and protect some component of an aircraft, such as the crew, engine, or landing gear; e.g., an airplane cockpit or an airship gondola. 2. Wind. the main body of a horizontal axis wind turbine that contains the gearbox, generator, controller, brake, blade hub, and other parts.
NAD
Biological Energetics. nicotinamide ade-nine dinucleotide; a coenzyme found widely in nature and involved in numerous enzymatic reactions in which it serves as an electron carrier by being alternately oxidized (NAD +) and reduced (NADH); required in the glyco-lytic and other metabolic pathways.
NADPH
Biological Energetics. nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate; a coenzyme found in all living cells and composed of NAD (see above) with an extra phosphate group attached. The energy of NADPH is an important source of reducing power in the cell.
Naflon
Materials. the brand name used by DuPont for a series of fluorinated sulfonic acid copolymers, the first synthetic ionic polymer. It is resistant to chemical breakdown, making it useful for membranes in proton exchange membrane fuel cells.
