1894 1989, German scientist considered to be one of the founders of modern rocketry; he was the first to describe the basic principles of spaceflight (1923). During World War II he joined his former student Werner von Braun at the V-2 rocket complex, and then joined him again after the war at the U.S. Army Ballistic Missile Agency.
obligation to serve
Electricity. the responsibility of an electric utility to provide electric service to any customer who seeks that service, and is willing to pay the set rates.
occupancy sensor
Lighting. a device used in a building to turn off lights when a given area is unoccupied. Infrared occupancy sensors detect heat given off by people present in the room, while ultrasonic sensors detect movement in the room; in the absence of heat or motion, the lights are turned off.
occupational disease
Health & Safety. any disease resulting from a specific job or workplace, usually caused by the effects of long-term exposure to certain toxic substances or by continuous or repetitive physical acts.
