SAE horsepower
Transportation. a standard measure of a vehicle s horsepower; the horsepower generated by the engine at the flywheel with all energy-drawing accessories attached, such as an alternator and power steering and air conditioning units. Also called SAE net horsepower in contrast with the earlier standard it replaced, SAE gross horsepower, which is horsepower measured with no load from a chassis or accessories and with ideal fuel and ignition conditions.
