Harnessing AutoCAD 2007

AutoCAD provides various tools to make your drafting and design work easier. The drawing tools described in this chapter will assist you in creating drawings rapidly, while ensuring the highest degree of precision.
After completing this chapter, you will be able to do the following:
Use and control drafting settings (e.g., GRID, SNAP, ORTHO, POLAR TRACKING, and OBJECT SNAP)
Use Tracking and Direct Distance
Use display control commands (e.g., ZOOM, PAN, REDRAW, and REGEN)
Create tiled viewports
Use layering techniques
Use the UNDO and REDO commands
The SNAP, GRID, ORTHO, POLAR/OBJECT SNAP TRACKING, OBJECT SNAP, DYNAMIC TRACKING, and LINEWEIGHT commands do not create objects. However, they make it possible to create and modify objects more easily and accurately. Each of these Drafting Settings commands can be readily toggled ON when needed and OFF when not. These commands, when turned ON, function according to settings that can be changed easily. When used appropriately, these commands provide the power, speed, and accuracy associated with Computer-Aided Design/ Drafting.
The SNAP command provides an invisible reference grid in the drawing area. When set to ON, the Snap feature forces the cursor to lock onto the nearest point on the specified Snap Grid. With the Snap value set appropriately, you can specify points quickly, letting AutoCAD ensure that they are placed precisely. You can always override the snap spacing by entering absolute or relative coordinate points from the keyboard, or by simply turning the Snap mode OFF. When the Snap...
