Harnessing AutoCAD 2007

Until now, you have been working on the plan view, or the XY plane. You have been looking down at the plan view from a positive distance along the Z axis. The direction from which you view your drawing or model is called the viewpoint. You can view a drawing from any point in model space. From your selected viewpoint, you can add objects, modify existing objects, or suppress the hidden lines from the drawing.
The VPOINT, DVIEW, and 3DORBIT commands are used to control viewing of a model from any point in model space.
To view a model in 3D, you may have to change the viewpoint. The location of the viewpoint can be controlled by means of the VPOINT command. The default viewpoint is 0,0,1; that is, you are looking at the model from 0,0,1 (on the positive Z axis above the model) to 0,0,0 (the origin).
| Note | The value of I as the Z coordinate in the point 0,0,1 is not critical. In a parallel view, the Z coordinate can be any positive value (0.5 or even 1000). It establishes the distance from which you are viewing the objects. However, the Z coordinate can affect the appearance of objects drawn in 3D if you are using the PERSPECTIVE option of the 3DOR6/T feature (discussed lat-er). |
Invoke the VPOINT command from the on-screen prompt.
