Harnessing AutoCAD 2007

After completing this chapter, you will be able to do the following:
Draw construction lines using the XLINE and RAY commands
Construct geometric figures with polygons, ellipses, and polylines
Create single line text and multi-line text using appropriate styles and sizes, to annotate drawings
Use the construct commands: COPY, ARRAY, OFFSET, MIRROR, FILLET, and CHAMFER
Use the modify commands: MOVE, TRIM, BREAK, and EXTEND
AutoCAD provides powerful tools for drawing lines (XLINE and RAY commands) that extend infinitely in one or both directions. These lines have no effect, however, on the ZOOM EXTENTS command. They can be moved, copied, and rotated like any other objects. If necessary, you can trim the lines, break them anywhere with the BREAK command, draw an arc between two non-parallel construction lines with the FILLET command, and draw a chamfer between two non-parallel construction lines with the CHAMFER command.
The construction lines can be used as reference lines for creating other objects. To keep the construction lines from being plotted, draw them on a separate layer and set that layer to a non-printing status.
The XLINE command allows you to draw lines that extend infinitely in both directions from the point selected when being created.
Invoke the XLINE command by selecting Construction Line from the Draw toolbar (see Figure 4-1) and -AutoCAD prompts:
