Mastering Autodesk VIZ 2005

VIZ output most commonly takes the form of rendered images. You are probably aware that you need to render large images in order to have enough resolution for quality color printing (at least 300 pixels/inch), and it takes a long time to render such images for large format printing. It is not uncommon for a single detailed photo-realistic scene to require many hours or even overnight to render.
Perhaps the second most common form of VIZ output is animation output to videotape or DVD. If you thought printable images took a long time to render, wait until you try to render a one-minute animation! One consolation is that the rendered frame size in most animations is relatively small, so each frame can be rendered much more quickly as compared with images destined for print. However, you'll have to render many, many frames to complete the animation. Do the math (30 frames/second total frames time/frame), and you can see that you'll likely have to wait days for a single processor to render your animation.
| Tip | You can use VIZ's backburner technology to render images over a network. Each processor in the network, and each processor in multiprocessor machines, can be harnessed to render your still image or animated sequence. Rendering networks are sometimes called render farms. You should contact a knowledgeable network administrator before attempting to install backburner. Please refer to Help User Reference for more information. |
