Chapter 15: Combining Photographs with VIZ Designs

Overview

Photography plays a big role in the design process, so it shouldn't be a big surprise that photographs are also an important part of your work with VIZ. Architects use photographs to study proposed building sites and to record the progress of a construction project. Photographs are also used to record design details that need to be reproduced or restored.

In Chapter 14, you explored the relationship between image-editing programs and VIZ. You saw how image-editing programs can be an integral part of your model creation. In this chapter, you'll continue that exploration by looking at how photographs play a role in your work with VIZ.

In the first part of this chapter, you'll learn how you can simulate detail in a model of a car by using modified photographs. You'll use a combination of mesh modeling and a series of photographs of a car to create a car that you can use as a three-dimensional entourage element in your designs and animations. This will give you a chance to try out some new mesh modeling tools and will also allow you to see how photos can help simplify the creation of certain types of objects.

In the second part of the chapter, you'll learn how to match a building to a background photograph of the building site. This process gives you a chance to see what a building will look like when it's completed in its proposed location. Matching a VIZ...
