Description
Current Loop (Transmitter) Input Temperature Controllers are devices that convert temperature measurements into a standardized current signal, typically ranging from 4 to 20 milliamps. This current signal is then used to communicate the temperature data over long distances to a process controller or monitoring system.
Working Principle
These controllers operate by using a sensor, such as a thermocouple or RTD, to measure temperature. The sensor's output is a low-level electrical signal that the transmitter converts into a current signal. This current signal is proportional to the measured temperature and circulates in a loop powered by a single power supply. The loop can cover long distances, allowing the temperature data to be transmitted without significant signal loss. This is particularly useful in industrial settings where the sensor and controller may be separated by several hundred feet or more .
