Accessing Autodesk Architectural Desktop 2007

Simple or complex roofs can be placed on a building through the RoofAdd command. The roof can be applied to the walls of the building or created from a polyline. This chapter includes tutorials that develop the following roofs: gable, gambrel, hip and dormer. Additional detail and flexibility in editing the roof is obtained by converting the roof to roof slabs. The use of roof slabs to develop overhang features will be presented. A roof slab can be extended, trimmed, or mitered to create a complex roof. The commands for creating roofs and roof slabs are included on the Design tool palette.
After completing this chapter, you will be able to
Use RoofAdd to create hip, gable, shed and gambrel roofs
Edit roof plate height, roof slope, thickness, overhang and fascia angle using the Properties palette
Use grips to change a hip roof to a gable roof
Convert walls and linework to a roof
Convert roofs, walls and linework to roof slabs
Create roof slabs and dormer roofs that intersect the main roof
Extend walls to the roof line
The commands for creating and editing roofs are located on the Design tool palette as shown in Figure 7.1. The Roof tool ( RoofAdd) is used to place a roof. New and existing roofs are changed by editing the Properties palette. Existing roofs are edited by their grips and by choosing commands from the shortcut menu of the selected roof.
