MOTORS

80 Introduction

Direct-current motors and ac synchronous motors are identical in construction with dc generators and ac generators, respectively. Motors and generators differ only in their functions. A generator converts mechanical energy into electric energy; a motor converts electric into mechanical energy. Like generators, motors are divided into two fundamental classes: ac motors and dc motors.
