Exercise Workbook for Advanced AutoCAD 2007

Lesson 13

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

After completing this lesson, you will be able to:

  1. Understand the concept of 3D

  2. Change the display as a hidden view

  3. Understand the difference between:

    Wireframe, Surface and Solid Modeling

The following lessons are an introduction to 3D. These lessons will give you a good understanding of the basics of AutoCAD s 3D program.

Unfortunately, LT users will not be able to do Lessons 14 through 20. The LT version does Not have solid modeling commands.

Note

Increased RAM requirement

The 3D visualization and rendering abilities of AutoCAD requires much more memory than ever before. It will run with 512MB but Autodesk recommends 2GB of RAM and a video card with at least 128MB of its own memory. Check Autodesk s website (www.autodesk.com) for the list of supported video cards.

INTRODUCTION TO 3D

We live in a three-dimensional world, yet most of our drawings represent only two dimensions. In Lesson 6 you made an isometric drawing that appeared three-dimensional. In reality, it was merely two-dimensional lines drawn on angles to give the appearance of depth.

In the following lessons you will be presented with a basic introduction to AutoCAD s 3D techniques for constructing and manipulating objects. These lessons are designed to give you a good start into the environment of 3D and encourage you to continue your education in the world of CAD.

In 2D drawings you see only one plane. This plane has two axes,...
