Operating Vacuum
Ultimate Operating Vacuum:       Vacuum or pressure is often measured in torr, or mm Hg referenced above absolute zero pressure. Sometimes the following reference terms are used: 1 torr and above: Rough Vacuum 0.001 to 1.0 torr: Medium Vacuum Below 0.001 torr: High Vacuum There are other terms and standards used, such as medium vacuum and ultra high vacuum; consult supplier for application specifications.

Type / Technology
   Pump Type / Technology
   Your choices are...
Axial Blower       Axial blowers are multiple-blade rotors that imparts axial velocity which is converted to pressure. Axial blowers generally have very high flow rates.
Centrifugal Blower       Centrifugal blowers are high-speed impellers that produces radial air flow. Velocity is converted to pressure energy. Evacuated air flows radially outward against blower wall, as opposed to axially through tube axial blowers.
Circumferential Piston       Circumferential pistons have multiple-rotor configurations in which two rotors, each with two "wings". The wings trap air against the outside wall during rotation and compress it in their rotary stroke toward the outlet. The wings of the two rotors alternate in compression strokes.
Claw       Claw or rotary claw pumps use precision-designed intermeshing hooked claws with very tight tolerances and clearances for highly efficient internal compression. They are typically noncontact, minimizing, or eliminate friction and wear.
Diaphragm       Diaphragm oscillation is driven by a reciprocating or eccentric "rocking" rod with no sliding seals or parts. This design isolates the pumped fluid from any contact with the pumping mechanism.  Diaphragm pumps exhibit a much lower compression ration than piston pumps, but frequently offer quiet, economical performance.
Gear Pump       Gear pumps are positive displacement pumps used to transport high pressure and high volume flows. They use the meshing of gear teeth to reduce volume and move air to evacuate the vacuum chamber.
Linear       Linear pump technology uses the stroke of sliding piston compression. It is generated with electromagnetic oscillation, and is clean and quiet.
Liquid Ring       Eccentrically mounted rotors and vanes utilize liquid ring on the inside of chambers to compress air. The liquid also absorbs compression heat and entrained particles in the air.
Lobed Rotor       Lobed rotor technology traps air and compresses it by the diminishing volume, which is caused by the meshing of oppositely rotating lobes.
Reciprocating Piston       Reciprocating pistons mechanically reduce air volume inside a cylinder. These pumps may have one or several pistons being driven by a motor. The vacuum levels produced by this pump style are somewhat higher than for other types of mechanical pumps.
Regenerative Blower       Regenerative blowers are similar to centrifugal with airflow chambers designed to generate higher pressure. Air flows radially outward along blade to housing wall, whereupon it flows down to the root of the next blade gap and repeats the cycle.  The airflow thus creates several "stages" of compression.
Rocking Piston       Rocking pistons are similar to reciprocating pistons, but are not articulated. These pistons "rock" with eccentric motion of drive.
Rotary Piston       Rotary pistons or cams rotate eccentrically and evacuates air through a check valve on the "compression" or evacuation stroke, while air from the vacuum application fills in behind it.
Rotary Vane       Rotary vanes are eccentrically mounted rotors and sliding vanes that compress air in diminishing volume compartments.
Rotary Screw       Rotary screws have two or more spindles with intermeshing screws that rotate oppositely, creating axially progressing "chambers" that move the air from suction to discharge. Larger pumps often have double suction, where air is let in from both ends to a central discharge port. Rotary screw pumps often offer good vacuum levels with pulse-free operation.
Scroll       In scroll technology, air is moved as intake air is compressed between the surfaces of mating involute spirals. One spiral moves to progressively push the evacuated air out to the exhaust.
Other       Unlisted, specialized, or proprietary mechanical vacuum technology.

   Your choices are...
Individual Vacuum Pump       Individual vacuum pump are typically for insertion into or used with a larger system or process.
Combination / Multi-Technology Pump       Multi-technology pumps have two or more different technologies or capacity pumps stacked together to increase capacity, or take advantage of the features of each type.
Vacuum Pump System / Station       Vacuum systems can include multiple pumps and associated piping, valves, controls, receivers, etc. These pumps can also indicate centralized vacuum sources for manufacturing or automation cells or plants.

   Lubrication:
   Your choices are...
Dry / Oil-less       Dry or oil-less lubrication styles use permanently sealed bearings or other isolation technology eliminate oil in the fluid train.
Splash Lubrication       Oil splashes onto components from bath.
Oil-flooded       Oil-flooded lubrication is sometimes used in rotary vane and other mechanical pump styles. This type of lubrication involves a heavy application of oil for moving parts.
Positive Pressure       In positive pressure lubrication, oil pressure is maintained for highest level of lubrication.
Other       Other unlisted or specialized lubrication technique.
Search Logic:      All products with ANY of the selected attributes will be returned as matches. Leaving all boxes unchecked will not limit the search criteria for this question; products with all attribute options will be returned as matches.

   Power Source
   Your choices are...
None       Not having a power source is an option for some high vacuum pumps such as turbomolecular, where vacuum is increased by molecular absorption rather than mechanically moving parts.
Compressed Air / Fluid       In compressed air / fluid systems, power is derived from nonelectric media such as motive fluid. Compressed air is most common, but hydraulic or other power sources are possible.
DC Power       DC power includes battery and power supply inputs.
AC Single Phase       Single-phase AC motor voltages include 115V/60Hz and 230V/50Hz.
AC Three Phase       Many industrial devices run from three phase power such as 208V or 377V.
Engine       Pumps whose primary power comes from an engine, such as a gasoline or diesel engine.
Magnetic Drive       Magnetic drives typically use a rotating magnetic field to drive the pump impeller. This can allow for seal-less construction and is often used for pumping clean liquids or gases.
Other       Other unlisted or specialized power source.

   Mounting & Features
   Your choices are...
Benchtop       Benchtop mounting is used for products small enough to mount or be placed on a bench or table. These models may include portability.
Cart / Portable       Portable mounts include wheels, casters, or easily movable frames for frequent relocation.
OEM Controller / Control Panel       Vacuum pump or vacuum system has an integral OEM controller or control panel consisting of adjustment controls more than a simple regulator knob.
Floor / Skid       The device rests on floor or on a skid; they are typically used for larger vacuum pumps.
Gas Ballast       Atmospheric air is allowed into the compression chamber to minimize condensate in the oil and prevent corrosion.
Integral Trap(s)       Traps are used to prevent backstreaming and resultant contamination from roughing pumps in high vacuum or sanitary applications. There are various trap types or technologies designed for the prevention of chamber entry by oil or water vapor, hydrocarbons, etc.
Magnetic Bearing       A vacuum pump may utilize magnetic bearing where the rotor is lifted using magnetic levitation. Magnetic levitation in magnetic bearings eliminates contact and contact friction between the two surfaces.
Permanent Installation       Permanent installation is used with very large systems or stations that are installed permanently in one place.
Valve Sequencing Control       Sequence control of valve opening is critical, especially in a high vacuum system. This option denotes pumps with valve control.
