Description

Working Principle
Pilot-operated solenoid valves operate by using a small pilot valve to control a larger main valve. The pilot valve is a direct-acting solenoid valve that, when energized, opens to allow pressure to escape from the top of the main valve diaphragm. This pressure release enables the main valve to open, allowing fluid to flow through. When the pilot valve is de-energized, the pressure is restored, closing the main valve. This mechanism is particularly useful because it allows for the control of large volumes of fluid with minimal energy input, making these valves efficient and effective for various industrial applications.
Applications
Pilot-operated solenoid valves are widely used in industries such as oil and gas, chemical processing, and water treatment. Specific applications include controlling the pressure of fluids in pipelines and tanks, regulating steam flow in power generation plants, and managing the flow of hazardous chemicals in chemical processing facilities. They are also employed in steam systems for boiler feedwater control and condensate recovery.
Advantages over other Solenoid Valves
Pilot-operated solenoid valves offer several advantages over direct-acting solenoid valves. They can handle higher flow rates and pressure drops, making them suitable for large-scale industrial applications. Additionally, they provide precision control over fluid flow, offering a high degree of accuracy and responsiveness. While not as fast-acting as direct-acting valves, they are still considerably faster than motorized ball valves, making them a preferred choice in applications requiring quick response times.
Limitations
