Control Valves

Chapter 15 - Accessories

In this chapter we discuss those devices (accessories) that may be mounted on or sometimes off the valve to fit the valve to the process requirements. We will discuss the applicable standards, the reasons for their use, and how to mount the accessories. Most manufacturers of control valves offer technical guidance in their publications regarding the capabilities of their devices. All nonvalve manufacturers of accessories do provide the capabilities of their supplied devices but do not necessarily provide mounting hardware. For unified responsibility, most buyers purchase the auxiliary devices from the valve manufacturer; however, some second-party suppliers of devices provide excellent quality at a lower installed cost. In some cases, distributors will supply the valve and install the accessories. However the accessories are ordered, one must be very specific about what device is required and the desired end performance. In any case, the supplier must furnish the installation and operating instructions. The accessories to be described are as follows:

  • Air sets/gauges
  • Booster relays
  • Position transmitters
  • Trip valves and volume tanks
  • Transducers I/P
  • Quick exhaust valves
  • Limit switches
  • Lockup valves
  • Solenoid valves
  • Travel stops
  • Positioners
  • Handwheels
  • Integrated positioners
  • Lifting lugs
  • Network positioners (intelligent)
  • User nameplate
  • Maintenance smart positioners
  • Maintenance programs
