One of the limitations of alumina ceramics is their brittleness compared to metals, which makes them more susceptible to chipping and breaking under certain conditions . Additionally, achieving precision tolerances in alumina parts can be costly due to the need for diamond grinding and polishing .

Considerations

When considering alumina ceramics, initial costs are relatively low compared to other ceramics, but precision machining can increase expenses significantly. However, the extended life cycle and reduced downtime for repairs can offset these costs over time .
