Activity Codes were discussed earlier as a method of organizing activities under project breakdown structures. There are two alternative tools available in P3 for organizing activities in a schedule:
Activity ID Codes and
WBS Codes.
Alias is a facility for merging the activities from two codes under one heading which may be used for Tabular Reports and Graphical Reports.
There is another method of organizing activities used by some software called Outlining. Outlining is used by MS Project and SureTrak but is not available in P3.
When a SureTrak project with Outlining or a Microsoft Project file is imported into P3, the Topic activities which are created by Microsoft Project may not be "Promoted" or "Demoted" in P3 but they may be deleted. It is recommended that they are deleted.
The Activity ID Code is assigned to an activity as part of the Activity ID and therefore puts logic into the Activity ID.
Activities assigned with Activity ID Codes are organized in Layouts in the same method as activities assigned with Activity Codes. You have the option of choosing either Activity Codes or Activity IDs when creating a Layout.
In the example below, an Activity ID Code has been assigned for the Subproject, the Phases and the Disciplines. The values are seen in the first four characters in the Activity ID.
