Chapter 23: Tools and Techniques For Scheduling

Overview

This chapter covers some of the advanced features of P3:

Fragnets

This is a method of saving groups of activities and associated data such as Resources and Activity Codes. The activities may then be copied into any project at a later date.

Custom Data Items

You may create your own data columns and specify the data they will contain.

These are useful for holding information such as Contract Numbers, Purchase Orders, Planned Dates or additional descriptions for data.

Cost Accounts

Cost Accounts are to Resources as Activity Codes are to Activities. You may group, sort and summarize resources by Cost Accounts.

They are useful for summarizing resources under an accounting style breakdown.

Resource/Cost Distribution Curves

These allow a non-linear distribution of resources over time.

Resource Curves allow you to model the build up and tapering off resource requirements over an activity duration.

Zig Zag Progress Lines

This feature will allow you to display the progress by joining up the points with a zig zag line.

23.1 Fragnets

Fragnets are very useful when the same group of activities with their relationships, resource data and codes are required to be used multiple times in a schedule.

There are options to assign unique activity data while Fragnets are being imported into a schedule.

23.1.1 Creating a Fragnet

Fragnets are created and saved by:

  • Selecting the activities to be save as a fragnet.

  • Selecting Tools, Fragnet, Store.

  • Assigning a two character ID for the Fragnet.
