Planning Using Primavera Project Planner P3 Version 3.1 Revised 2006

This chapter will bring together all the aspects of Project Groups found throughout this book to provide an overview of Project Groups within one chapter.
When a new project is created in P3 it automatically becomes a Project Group. Sub-projects may then be created under a Project Group and these sub-projects are termed Projects. Projects share the calendars, codes, resources and other data from the Project Group. You may work entirely within a Project Group and do not have to create a Project under a Project Group.
In a corporate environment Project Groups are useful as it provides a facility to:
Report across all projects in the Project Group.
Analyze the total resource requirements for all projects.
Assist in setting up new projects, as many defaults such as Calendars, Activity codes, Resources, Layouts and Reports are already defined in the Project group and available to every project in the group.
Establish and control appropriate access to the data for each Primavera P3 and SureTrak user.
