Simple Air Cylinders
Description
Simple air cylinders are devices that convert pneumatic energy into mechanical work. They typically consist of a movable element such as a piston and piston rod, or plunger, operating within a cylindrical bore. These cylinders are designed to perform linear motion by extending and retracting the piston rod.
Working Principle
Simple air cylinders operate by using compressed air to move the piston within the cylinder bore. In double-acting cylinders, air is supplied to chambers on both sides of the piston, allowing for both extension and retraction of the piston rod. This setup makes them ideal for applications requiring pushing and pulling actions. The movement of the piston can be electronically controlled by placing magnetically operated switches on the outside of the barrel, which interact with a magnetic band around the piston. Additionally, the air used can become contaminated by equipment lubricants, which increases the risk of damage to the cylinders .
