Chapter 16: Grips

Overview

  1. Grips are an aid to the draughting process and offer the user access to a limited number of modify commands.

    1. In an earlier chapter we 'turned grips off' with the command line entry of GRIPS 0.

    2. This was to allow the user to become reasonably proficient with using the draw and modify commands.

    3. Now that this has been achieved, we will investigate how grips are used.

Toggling grips on/off

Grips can be toggled on/off using:

  1. the Selection tab from the Options dialogue box

  2. command line entry.

  1. Open your A3PAPER standard sheet with layer OUT current.

  2. From the menu bar select Tools-Options and:

    prompt

    pick Selection tab

    with

    five distinct sections, two of which refer to grips:

    1. Grip Size

    2. Grips

    respond

    refer to Figure 16.1 and:

    1. set grip size to suit

    2. set the three grip colours to:

      1. unselected grip: blue

      2. selected grip: red

      3. hover grip: green

    3. Enable grips: active, i.e. tick in box

    4. Enable grips within blocks: not active

    5. Enable grip tips: not active

    6. Object selection limit: 100

    7. pick Apply then OK

    and

    the drawing screen will be returned, with the grip box 'attached' to cursor cross-hairs.

  3. At the command line enter GRIPS and:

    prompt

    Enter new value for GRIPS<1>

    respond

    i.e. leave the 1 value.

  4. The command entry to toggle grips on/off is GRIPS set to 1 are ON,...
