Beginning AutoCAD 2010: Exercise Workbook

After completing this lesson, you will be able to:
Place Cross hatch pattern in a boundary
Fill an area with solid fill
Add Gradient fills
Make changes to existing hatch sets.
The HATCH command is used to create hatch lines for section views or filling areas with specific patterns.
To draw hatch you must start with a closed boundary. A closed boundary is an area completely enclosed by objects. A rectangle would be a closed boundary. You simply pick inside the closed boundary. HATCH locates the area and automatically creates a temporary polyline around the outline of the hatch area. After the hatch lines are drawn in the area, the temporary polyline is automatically deleted. (Polylines are discussed in a future lesson)
Note: A Hatch set is one object. If you explode it, it will return to multiple objects such as lines.
It is good drawing management to always place gradient fill on it's own layer. Use Layer Hatch
You may also make gradient fill appear or disappear with the FILL command
Select the Hatch command using one of the following:
Ribbon = Home tab / Draw panel / ![]()
Keyboard = BH or hatch
Select the hatch Type
( Predefind and User defined described on page 15-3 and 15-4)

AutoCAD has many predefined hatch patterns.
These patterns are stored in the acad.pat and acadiso.pat files.
(You may also purchase patterns from other software companies.)
| Note | Using Hatch patterns will greatly increase... |
