Knight Optical offer optical diffusers for use in lighting and applications where a diffused lightsource is required.
Diffusers reduce the directionality of a light source and act to disperse incident light.
Knight Optical offer 4 forms of diffuser, each with advantages:
Anti-Newton glass offers low diffusion to assist in reducing the effects of Newton rings when two optical components are in close proximity.
The lightly etched surface of the diffuser acts to reduce the effects of Fresnel reflection.
Anti-Newton glass is used in scanners and film enlargers where interference rings can interfere with image quality.
Ground glass diffusers offer dispersion of light at up to 10° to incident light. Diffusion with a ground glass diffuser is not as heavy as that with an Opal diffuser, however, the light lost due to scattering is less.
Ground glass diffusers are often used in screens, illuminator diffusion and general light dispersion.
Flashed Opal diffusers comprise a polished glass with a layer of translucent white on one face.
Opal diffusers offer a higher degree of diffusion at the cost of higher light losses due to scattering.
Opal diffusers are often used in light boxes and other illumination applications.
Plastic diffusers offer higher dispersion than ground glass diffusers. They are made from PVC or Acrylic at 0.3mm and 3mm thicknesses. Plastic diffusers offer greater customisation of dimensions and are lighter than their glass cousins.
All Knight Optical diffusers are offered in a range of stock sizes available to view here.
In addition to our stock range of diffusers, customisation of dimensions is available on all our diffuser products. Please contact our technical sales team for more information or to discuss your custom requirements:
